About Us
Mortimer’s licensed, family run restaurant is situated in Mortimer Street, which lies between the High Street and the sea front. It prides itself on offering excellent food, in a family friendly atmosphere. We hold a 5* hygiene rating.

Chantal and Richard Bartlett have owned the restaurant since 2008. Their daughters Sophie and Chloe have been an integral part of the business and along with other staff members, we now have a fantastic Team Mortimer’s. Together as a team, we have created a welcoming, homely environment. Lockdown has enabled us to decorate and create a lighter, fresher colour scheme, in keeping with a seaside theme.

Popular for all day breakfast, home-made soups, snacks and home cooked roast dinners. We also offer a selection of tasty, daily specials which could include hearty fare such as – braised liver in onion gravy, chicken, mushroom and bacon casserole or salmon poached in lemon and black pepper. Not forgetting our famous home-made steak or chicken and ham pies, served with a selection of fresh vegetables and rich gravy. We provide vegetarian options on the menu. Gluten free gravy is available on request. Why not enjoy a glass of wine, beer or cider with your meal?

Our mouth-watering desserts change daily, from a selection on our specials board. These may include home-made fruit crumble, creamy rice pudding or sponge pudding, served with cream, custard or ice cream. Cold desserts e.g a selection of ice cream, or old-fashioned sundaes, including our honeycomb sundae with home-made toffee sauce.

A separate children’s menu is available, or children can have a smaller portion of most adult meals. Baby changing facilities are available.

Our cream teas are also a favourite, with a large home-made cheese scone, served with butter, or a fruit or plain scone, served with jam, clotted cream and a pot of tea or coffee. We also provide a lovely afternoon tea (this does need to be ordered in advance.) This is popular for any special occasion or just because you can. Tables for pre-booked afternoon teas are laid up with vintage china, cake stands, tea pots etc.

Richard said “our aim was always to create a friendly environment, where families, visitors or our regular customers can pop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a snack or lunch. Customers will always find a warm, welcoming atmosphere in which to relax and we can also cater for private, evening functions.”

Opening hours are 9am-4pm, with last food orders at 3.30pm, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays we open from 10am-3.30pm, last food orders are at 3pm.  Please book early to avoid disappointment. Check out our reviews on Trip Advisor.

•••••   Amazing place!

We held our Mum’s 85th birthday afternoon tea here at Mortimer’s and it was everything we wanted and more! They kindly closed the restaurant early for us and we had the place to ourselves. We were able to bring balloons and a birthday cake and they set up all the tables in such a way that all 20 of us were able to chat, laugh and relive memories. My Mum absolutely loved it. She has a wheelchair and they had a ramp, so very easy access into the restaurant.

Now the important bit, the food! It was exceptional, finger sandwiches and quiches (to die for) were served first, with drinks. Tea, coffee, Prosecco or lager. Then various slices of delicious cake, all different types from Victoria sponge to Biscoff and of course the obligatory scones, with clotted cream and jam.

All in all, everyone had a ball! The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be coming back..
